The troposphere gets its heat from the ground, and so temperature decreases with altitude. Warm air rises and cool air sinks and so the troposphere is unstable. In the stratosphere, temperature increases with altitude. The stratosphere contains the ozone layer, which protects the planet from the Sun's harmful UV.

Question:

Which layer of the atmosphere witnesses an increase in temperature with increase in height due to the absorption of X-rays and ultra-violet rays?

Options:
A)

Stratosphere

B)

Mesosphere

C)

Thermosphere

D)

Exosphere

Solution:

In the thermosphere the temperature increases with the increase in height as the gas molecules present absorb the X-rays and the Ultraviolet radiations of the Sun
