consecutive number (Question:170556.0)

if 1st no is X then next consecutive on is (X+1)...not (X+2)..this is the condition if two consecutive even number

Question:
What is the sum of two consecutive even numbers, the difference of whose square is 84?
Options:
A) 38
B) 34
C) 42
D) 46
Solution:
(x+2)2-x2 = 84


\(\Rightarrow\)\(x^2+4x+4-x^2=84 \)

\(\Rightarrow\)\(4x=80 \)

\(\Rightarrow\)\(x=20\)

now, \(x+2 = 22\)


Hence, sum of two numbers is 22+20=42

Dear Student,
If First even number is x then next even number you will will find by adding 2 to it i.e. x+2 ....not by 1 or x+1.
