it is givven that AB=10 , Allthough AB = distance between points (8,0)and (0,12) = sq root of 144+64= 208. then how can it be equal to 10 ?

Question:

The graph of the linear equation  3x+4y=24    is a straight line intersecting x-axis and y-axis at the points A and B respectively. P(2, 0) and Q (0,32 ) are two points on the sides OA and OB respectively of  OAB, where O is the origin of the co-ordinate system. Given that AB = 10 cm, then PQ = ?

Options:
A)

 20 cm.

B)

 2.5 cm.

C)

 40 cm.

D)

 5 cm.

Solution:

 OP=2

OQ= 32

PQ=OP2+OQ2

= 22+322

= 4+94

= 16+94=254=52=2.5cm
