i dont understand how to solve it

What will be the remainder when 231 is divided by 5. 
Options:
A) 4
B) 3
C) 2
D) 1
E) 0
Solution:
[Reminder of (31-1/4)]+1

Unit digit of 2 = Unit digit of (2)2+1

                     = Unit digit of 23

                     = 8

Thus, remainder when 231 is divisible by 5    is 3.
