HEIGHT OF P HERE IS CALCULATED WRONG HERE

Question:

From the top of a pillar of height 30 meters, the angles of elevation and depression of the top and bottom of another pillar are 30°and 60° respectively. Find the height of the second pillar.

Options:
A)

30(3 +1) m

B)

40 m

C)

303 - 1) m

D)

423  m

Solution:

Ans: (b)

Let AE and BD be two pillars in which AE = 30 m

Let EC be the perpendicular to DB. Then, angle DEC = 30° and angle CEB = angle ABE = 60°

AE = BC = 30 m

Let DC = p

In triangle BAE

Then, AE/AB = tan60° = √3

AB = AE/√3 = 30/√3

Therefore AB = EC = 30/√3

In triangle ECD

Now, DC/EC = tan30° = 1/√3

p = EC/√3 = (30/√3)/√3 = 10 m

Height of the pillar = BD = 30 + 10 = 40 m
