how it is possible if 5-2=3,8-3=6

Question:
If E = 3, H = 6 and PAT = 31, then what is value of ANGER?
Options:
A) 34
B) 35
C) 32
D) 33
Solution:

Ans: (b) 

E is 5th letter of the alphabet. But E is coded as 5 – 2 = 3 and same for H.

Similarly for PAT = (16 − 2) + (1 − 2) + (20 − 2) = 31

Value of A N G E R
 =(1-2)+(14-2)+(7-2)+(5-2)+(18-2)

= (-1)+12+5+3+(16)

= -1+36

=35

According to given condition E=3 but actually E coded as 5, here we subtract 2, similarly each code is coded by the rule subtraction of 2 from their actual value. read solution carefully and try again.
