why 400 is assumed as cp?

Question:
The reduction of Rs. 12 in the selling price of an article will changs 5% gain into 2 \(\cfrac{1}{2}\) % loss. The cost price of the article is - 
Options:
A) Rs. 140
B) Rs. 160
C) Rs. 80
D) Rs. 100 
Solution:
Ans: (b)


400 units = \(\cfrac{12}{30}\) × 400 = 160
