in the given question after second replacement of mixture with water, ratio of milk to water should be 9/16 (instead of 9/25 which is wrong).
Solution is also done according to 9/16.
Proof: according to answer total mixture is 15
after 1st replacement milk:water=9:6=3:2
after 2nd replacement milk:water=(9-6*3/5)/(6-6*2/5+6)=9/16

Question:
From a container, 6 ltr. milk was drawn out and was replaced by water. Again 6 ltr. of mixture was drawn out and was replaced by the water. Thus the quantity of milk and water in the container after these two operations is 9 : 16. The quantity of mixture is:
Options:
A) 15 liter
B) 16 liter
C) 25 liter
D) 31 liter
Solution:
Ans: (a) Let total quantity of mixture be x ltr.

\(\cfrac{9}{25}=\left (1- \cfrac {6}{x} \right )^2\)

\(1-\cfrac{3}{5}=\cfrac{6}{x}\Rightarrow x=15\ ltr.\)

9/25 is the ratio of milk to mixture and not milk to water. both the solutions are correct.
