Question:

A, B and C have certain amount with them in the ratio of 15 : 19 : 21. If C gave Rs.120 each to A and B, the ratio of the amount with three became 31 : 39 : 40 respectively. The total amount with three together is:

Options:
A) Rs.13200
B) Rs.14600
C) Rs.11500
D) Rs.12100
Solution:

Ans. (a) Let A, B and C have initially 15x, 19x and 21x respectively.

Let the amount with three later be 31y, 39y and 40y respectively.

Then, 21x – 2(120) = 40y

21x – 40y = 240 --------------(1)

And, 15x + 19x + 21x = 31y + 39y + 40y

55x = 110y

x = 2y ------------------(2)

From (1) and (2),y = 120

Total amount with three = 31y + 39y + 40y = 110y = Rs. 13200
