Question:

A shopkeeper buys dry fruits at the rate of 125, 100 and 60 per kg. He bought them in the ratio 12 : 15 : 25 by weight. He is total gets 30% profit by selling the first and last type of dry fruits and at last he finds he has no gain no loss in selling the whole quantity which he had. What was the percentage loss he suffered for the second quantity?

Options:
A)

30%

B)

60%

C)

40%

D)

50%

Solution:

Let the quantity bought be 12x, 15x and 25x kg respectively.

Total cost price = 125 × 12x + 100 × 15x+ 60 × 25x

= 1500x + 1500x + 1500x

= 4500x

S.P of first and last quantities at profit of 30%

130100×3000x=3900x

Total S.P = 4800 (for no profit no less)

S.P of second quantity = 4800x – 3900x

= 600x

Loss% =  15006001500×100

9001500×100

= 60%
