for good refrigerant specific heat should be low so that for same work done refrigeration capacity = m[h2-h1] enthaply difference is maximum and hence
maximum cop .
also low specific vol. is required for ref. bcz it will lower size of equipment required to handle smaller vol.

Question:

Which one of the following is not a desirable property of a good refrigerant ?

Options:
A)

low specific heat

B)

high specific volume of vapour

C)

large latent heat at evaporator pressure

D)

high critical temperature

Solution:

Ans: (a)

Refrigerant should have low specific heat in order to ensure that refrigerant temperature rises quickly in the evaporator and added heat is used for converting refrigerant into vapour phase so that only vapor enters into the compressor and not liquid

Dear Student,
Kindly look at the explanation as given below:
Refrigerant should have low specific heat in order to ensure that refrigerant temperature rises quickly in the evaporator and added heat is used for converting refrigerant into vapour phase so that only vapourenters into the compressor and not liquid.
