i dont understand the solution

Question:
The ratio of the sum and the LCM of two natural numbers is 7 : 12. If their HCF is 4, then what is the smaller number ?
Options:
A) 20
B) 16
C) 12
D) 8
Solution:
Let the numbers be 4x and 4y respectively.

Then According to question,

\(\cfrac{4x+4y}{4xy}=\cfrac{7}{12}\)

\(\cfrac{4(x+y)}{4xy}=\cfrac{7}{12}\)

12(x+y) = 7xy

\(\Rightarrow\)x = 3, y = 4

Hence smaller number = 4 \(\times\) 3 = 12
