why we have reciprocate the 5/4 into 4/5

Question:
If the price of coal is increased by 25%, by what percent the consumption of coal must be reduced so that expenditure is not increased?
Options:
A) 20%
B) 25%
C) 33\(\cfrac{1}{3}\)%
D) 50%
Solution:
Ans:(a)
New price = \(1+\cfrac{1}{4}=\cfrac{5}{4}\) of original price

\(\therefore\) New quantity with the same amount = \(\cfrac{4}{5}\) of the original quantity

\(\therefore\) Decrease in quantity = \(1-\cfrac{4}{5}=\cfrac{1}{5}=20\%\)
