EXPLAIN DETAILS OF SOLUTION

Question:

Cost of two watches are in the ratio 16 : 23. The cost of first watch increases by 10% and that of second by Rs.477. Now the cost of two watches is in the ratio 11 : 20. The price of the second watch (in Rs.) in the beginning was:

Options:
A) Rs.848
B) Rs.932
C) Rs.1219
D) Rs.1696
Solution:
Ans: (c)

Let the C.P. of first watch = 16x

C.P. of second watch = 23x

A.T.Q.,

\(\cfrac{16x\times1.1}{23x+477}=\cfrac{11}{20}\)

32x = 23x + 477

9x = 477

x = 53

Thus, the C.P. of second watch = 23 × 53 = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)1219

Dear Student,

Steo by step explanation is already given...

As the ratio of two watches are given so CP of 1st watch = 16x and CP of 2nd watch = 23x

10% increase in x means 1.1*x

so, 10% increase in 16x = 16x*1.1

23x is increase by 477 = 23x+477

Now the cost of two watches ratio = 11/20

so, (16x*1.1) / (23x+477) = 11/20

Calculate x now and find the value of 23x.
