Expenditure on clothes is 10% then how come 15 in the calculation

Question:

DIRECTIONS: Study the following graph carefully to answer the question given below?

The yearly expenditure of a family

If \(\unicode{x20B9} \)60,000 is spend for education. By what amount is for clothes more than that for saving?
Options:
A) 10,000
B) 20,000
C) 30,000
D) Cannot be determined
Solution:
Ans: (b) 15% = 60000

Expenditure on clothes = \(\cfrac{60000}{15}\times10=40000\)

Saving (5%) =\(\cfrac{60000}{15}\times5=20000\)

Difference = 40000 - 20000 = 20000

Alternate solution:

Let total amount = x

₹60,000 is spend for education.

so from graph 15% of x is spent on education.

Therefore, 15% of x = 60000

x = 4,00,000 (Total amount)

By what amount is for clothes more than that for saving?

So, Required amount = 10% of x - 5% of x = 40000 - 20000 = 20000

Its correct.....

See:

Let total amount = x

₹60,000 is spend for education.

so from graph 15% of x is spent on eduation.

Therefore, 15% of x = 60000

x = 4,00,000 (Total amount)

By what amount is for clothes more than that for saving?

So, Required amount = 10% of x - 5% of x = 40000 - 20000 = 20000
