Question:
If two pipes function simultaneously, then a tank is filled in 12 hours. First pipe fills the tank in 10 hours faster than the other. How many hours do the faster pipe alone take to fill the tank?
Options:
A) 10 hours
B) 15 hours
C) 25 hours
D) 20 hours
Solution:
 Ans: (d) Pipes (A + B) can fill a tank = 12 hours

Let A pipe can fill a tank = x hours

\(\therefore\) B pipe can fill a tank = x + 10 hours

Now, A's one hour work = \(\cfrac{1}{x}\)

B's one hour work = \(\cfrac{1}{x + 10 }\)
