Question:
A man invested \(\unicode{x20B9} \)50, 000 at simple interest in the three parts -one third at 6% p.a. one third at 7%. At what rate must he invest the remaining amount so that he earns 8% interest on the total amount?
Options:
A) 9%
B) 10%
C) 11%
D) 12%
Solution:
Ans: (c)

Let total amount 300 \(\div\) 3 = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)300

\(\therefore\) Amount invested in each part = 3 = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)100

Total interest earned = 3 x 8 = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)24

Interest earned from first and second part = 6 +  7 = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)13

Interest to be earned from the third part = 24 - 13 = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)11

This part was invested at 11%

1/3×6%+1/3×7%+1/3×a% = 1×8%
2+7/3+1/3×a= 8
a = 11%

Ans: (c)
Let total amount 300 ÷ 3 = ₹300
∴ Amount invested in each part = 3 = ₹100
Total interest earned = 3 x 8 = ₹24
Interest earned from first and second part = 6 + 7 = ₹13
Interest to be earned from the third part = 24 - 13 = ₹11
This part was invested at 11%
