Question:
The ratio of the first and second class fares between two railway station is 4 : 1 and that of the number of passengers travelling by first and second class is 1 : 40. If on a day Rs.1100 are collected as total fare. The amount collected from the first class passenger is?
Options:
A) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)315
B) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)275
C) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)137.50
D) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)100
Solution:

Ratio of the fist and second class fares

= 1 × 4 : 1 × 40 =  4 :  40 = 1 : 10

Amount  collected from the first class

Passengers = \(\frac{1}{11}\)× 1100 = 100
