Going through theCLAT Syllabus will help you get an idea about the important topics from the exam point of view. As per the official CLAT Notification, the UG and PG programs syllabus is similar to last year.
Have a look at the detailed syllabus for both UG and PG programs from the post below.
CLAT UG Syllabus 2023
As per the CLAT 2023 Notification, five main subjects are included in the UG Exam. Check out the table below to know the detailed syllabus for CLAT UG.
Subjects
Syllabus
English Language
There is a 450 words passage given based on contemporary or historically significant fiction and non-fiction writing. Based on the passage, 5-6 questions will be asked that test candidate's comprehension and language skills.
Current Affairs, including GK
This section also includes a 450 words passage followed by questions. The passage is based on news, journalistic sources, and other non-fiction writing.
Legal Reasoning
You need to read the 450 words passage based on facts, situations, and scenarios related to legal matters, public policy questions, or moral philosophical inquiries. Even if you don't have knowledge of the law is fine; general awareness of contemporary legal and moral issues is desirable.
Logical Reasoning
This includes many short 300 words passages, each followed by one or more questions after each passage.
Mathematics
This section includes short sets of facts or propositions, graphs, textual material, pictorial material, or diagrammatic representations of numerical information. Each of these includes questions that require applying mathematical operations.
CLAT PG Syllabus 2023
The PG syllabus is also based on comprehension-based questions. The descriptive section was removed from the syllabus as per last year's exam.
In order to crack the exam in one attempt, you must make a proper study plan and preparation strategy. As per the expert's opinion, you must make sure to start your CLAT preparationat least 6 or 7 months before the exam.
If you start your preparation early, you will have sufficient time for preparation, practice questions, and revision.
Read More to improve language. Read books, magazines, newspapers, and novels to enhance your vocabulary.
Study the basics of grammar; this can be done even from school-level grammar books to strengthen your basics. However, you need to get your grammar right and fix the mistakes to secure a good rank.
Mathematics may not be a big deal for law aspirants as this is just Class 10 mathematics. Go through NCERT Mathematics textbooks of class 9 and class 10.
Legal aptitude continues to be the most important section. Important book references for this would be the Constitution of India and the Legal Penal Code.
Importance of Moot Courts: Knowledge of arguing cases and knowing various laws at the tip of your tongue is a great thing to know for all aspiring lawyers.

CLAT Toppers Tips 2023
Ishan Thakur has successfully cleared the Law entrance Test 2021 with an AIR of 19 and scored 100.25 out of 150.
This is definitely a great score despite the change in the pattern and new types of questions. Here is a brief CLAT Topper Interviewof Ishan. Know his success strategy and how he reached his goals.
Ishan began his preparation for Law entrance Test for a year, and his dream was to join NLSIU Bangalore, the top law university in the country.
He focused completely on his studies and took a break from all the social networking platforms.
He was confident of making it to the top 3 NLUs but scoring 19 in the All India Ranking was unexpected.
Due to the postponement of the exam, Ishan pushed himself to study more and kept himself motivated.
This phase actually let him prepare more and increase his confidence.
He followed a series during preparation, i.e., he began with English, then Current affairs, followed by Legal Reasoning, then Mathematics, and lastly, Logical Reasoning. Since the Exam was comprehension-based this year, this strategy suited him well.
When it comes to Ishan's preparation strategy, he didn't have any particular timings for studying. Some days he would study the whole day, and other days just 4-5 hours. He also added that "taking breaks between studying is very important as it refreshes your mind and helps in focussing better."
Another important tip from Ishan is that he attempted more than 70 mock tests and solved all the sample papers provided by Consortium. After the mock test, it is important to go through the analysis to know your errors.
Reading newspapers like The Hindu and Indian Express daily helped Ishan tackle the analysis based on current affairs.
Most importantly, Ishan took up Online Coaching from LegalEdge Indore, which was his great companion throughout his preparation.

FAQ's
Do the NLUs consider Class 12 marks for admission?
The NLUs which are part of Law entrance Test has the basic eligibility condition of 45% or above marks in aggregate in Class XII. Other than that, no consideration is given to class XII marks.
How does the allotment of NLUs happen through CLAT?
While applying for Law entrance Test, every candidate is required to submit the preference of the National Law Universities. The preference matching to the rank of the candidate is considered while allotting the National Law University. Apart from domicile, gender, caste category is also considered as each NLU has different seat allocation for each category of student.
What is the age eligibility condition to apply for CLAT 2023?
There is no upper age limit applicable to anyone who wants to apply for the exam. But, the lower age limit has to be 20 years old and for the candidates who belong to SC/ST and PhD (Physically Disabled) categories, and for others the lower age limit is 22 years old.
When is the CLAT 2023 Exam Date?
As per the official notification, the CLAT 2023 is scheduled for 18 December 2022.
If I do not clear CLAT exam according to their cut off, will I be eligible for the final admissions?
No, it is actually not important to clear the minimum CLAT cut off for the proceedings of the admission. If any student who fails this step, it will make them uneligible to get admitted in any law school that only accept candidates on the basis of CLAT score.
What is Horizontal Reservation in CLAT?
Horizontal Reservation refers to reservation of seats from each category of seats available. For e.g., many NLUs offer horizontal reservation for female students, which refers to seats reserved for women candidates from the list of seats in all the categories (Gen., SC, ST, etc.).
Who can apply for EWS seats in CLAT 2023?
