Shreya 1st woman racer in national Rally Championship

TVS Racing on Tuesday signed their first woman rider, Shreya Sunder Iyer, for the Indian National Rally championship.
•    She has completed the KTM Adventure Tour across the sand dunes in Dubai, crossing the Kalasa River in Chikkamagalur, and covering around 2,000km in six days as a part of the Southern India Biking Expedition.
•    In 2016 season, Shreya will compete for TVS Racing in the Indian National Rally Championship on a rally-spec TVS Apache RTR.
•    Arvind Pangaonkar is the head of TVS racing, which has conducted this mega event .
•    He said the association with Shreya will encourage women to consider racing as a career.
•    She has already tried her luck in modeling as well as in reality shows but getting no big break moved her into this sports where she has been doing good since start

Garima Won gold at Commonwealth judo Championship

Garima Chaudhary added gold in the 63 kg senior category to take Indian medal tally to 12 in the 12th Commonwealth Judo Championship in Mauritius.

•    Chaudhary, had won gold in the 63 kg junior category  on 28th April 2016, clinched another yellow metal on the second day of the competition which also saw five other Indians winning bronze.
•    Bitu, Anil Kumar, Pawan Kumar and Virender Singh won a bronze each in the six-day competition.
•    India has now five gold, one silver and six bronze in their kitty.
•    Garima Chaudhary is an Indian judoka and has represented India as the country's sole judoka in the Women's (63 kg) category at the 2012 London Olympics
•    Garima was the only representative from India to contest for Olympic glory in London 2012 at Judo, where Yoshi Ueno from Japan sent her packing in the first elimination round.

Allan Donal appointed Australia's bowling coach

Allan Donald is going to be appointed as Australia's bowling coach for their tour of Sri Lanka which begins in July this year.

•    Currently working with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, Donald recently withdrew from the running for a franchise role with Knights, a South Africa domestic franchise. 
•    Allan Anthony Donald is a former South African cricketer and one of their most successful pace bowlers. 
•    In 1997 he came under intense scrutiny from the international cricket media after he was alleged to have used racially abusive language against India's Rahul Dravid in the finals of a one-day series. Allan Donald mentioned this incident in his autobiography, "White Lightning".

Riyad Mahrez became first African footballer to win PFA Player of the Year

Riyad Mahrez on 24 April 2016 became the first African footballer to win the Professional Footballers Association’s (PFA) Player of the Year award for the 2015–16 season. The footballer received the award at the Professional Footballers’ Association awards ceremony organised in London.
With the award, Mahrez also became the second non-European, after Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, to grab the award.
On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli was named Young Player of the Year.
• Riyad Mahrez is a professional footballer who plays for English club Leicester City and the Algerian national team as a winger.
• He began his career as a youth player for French club AAS Sarcelles.
• He turned professional in 2009.
• He made his international debut for Algeria in 2014 and represented them at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
• The Professional Footballers' Association Players' Player of the Year is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the year in English football.
• The award has been presented since the 1973–74 season and the winner is chosen by a vote amongst the members of the players' trade union, the Professional Footballers' Association.
• The first winner of the award was Leeds United defender Norman Hunter.
• Chelsea’s Eden Hazard was the PFA Player of the Year for the 2014-2015 season.

Mohun Bagan and Jeje Lalpekhlua named FPAI Player of the Year

Professional football club Mohun Bagan and India striker Jeje Lalpekhlua on 25 April 2016 won the Football Players’ Association of India (FPAI) Indian Player of the Year award at its annual awards function held in Mumbai.
Lalpekhlua received the highest number of votes from fellow professional footballers to finish on top in the shortlist which included India captain Sunil Chhetri, BikashJairu, David Lalrinmuana and Dhanachandra Singh.
Nigerian striker Ranti Martins, who played for East Bengal in the I-League, was named the Foreign Player of the Year.
The Manipur-born Udanta Singh of I-League champion Bengaluru FC bagged the Young Player of the Year award. Bengaluru FC’s coach Ashley Westwood won the Coach of the Year award.
DebjitMajumder was named the Fans’ Player of the Year.• Born on 7 January 1991 in Mizoram, JejeLalpekhlua is an Indian footballer who plays for Chennaiyin in the Indian Super League.
• He scored the only goal in a win against Afghanistan in the SAFF Cup group stage match in Bangladesh.
• He led the Indian U19 team to the South Asian games in Sri Lanka.
• Mohun Bagan Athletic Club is a professional football club based in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
• The club was established in 1889 by BhupendraNath Bose and is the oldest existing football club in India.
• The club was awarded the distinction of being the National Club of India by former Indian Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi as well as by the All India Football Federation in 1989.

Mairaj Ahmed Khan wins silver medal at ISSF World Cup of shooting

India’s Mairaj Ahmed Khan has won the silver medal in the men’s skeet event at ISSF World Cup held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 
•    In the final, Mairaj lost gold medal to Sweden’s Marcus Svensson and the bronze medal was won by TamarroCasandro of Italy. 
•    With this victory, he becomes first Indian shooter to win skeet medal for India at a World Cup. 
•    Earlier in September 2016 he had qualified for his maiden Olympics after finishing in sixth place at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup. 
•    He is the first Indian to qualify in the skeet event at the Olympics. 
•    In the 2010, Commonwealth Shooting Championship he had won a team gold medal which was his best international performance earlier.
•    Mairaj's best international performance previous to this was a team gold in the Commonwealth Shooting Championship in 2010.
•    Out of 26 World Cup appearances this was his best ever finish in his first-ever final round.

India to host 2018 Commonwealth Judo Championships

The Judo Federation of India (JFI) on 25 April 2016 announced that India has been allotted the Commonwealth Judo Championships 2018.
The Commonwealth Judo Championships was allotted to India, by the Commonwealth Judo Congress held on 23 April 2016 at Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
This will be the first time that Commonwealth Judo Championships will be held in India. The Championships will be held in Jaipur. However, the dates are yet to be finalized.
Besides, India will also play host to the 10th Asian Cadet Judo Championships & 17th Asian Juniors Judo Championships from 6 September to 12 September 2016 at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Kadvanthaa, Kerala.
• The Commonwealth Judo Championships are an international judo competition, open to countries of the Commonwealth of Nations.
• It is the official event of the Commonwealth Judo Associations and is organised every 2 years for Cadets, Junior, Seniors, Masters and visually impaired Judo Players.
• The Commonwealth Judo Championships 2016 will be held in South Africa.
A widely played sport in India, the first written record about Judo in India was found in Kodokan. Kodokan is about demonstrations and coaching of Judo by Shinzo Tagaki arranged at Shantiniketan in 1929 by Rabindranath Tagore.
To govern the sport, the Judo Federation of India was formed in 1965.
